Kinds of filters

ITLogBook supports three different kinds of filters that can be combined:

·      Loglevel filters: filter logmessages by their Loglevel combinations. See Loglevel filter toolbar.

·      Time filters: filter logmessages by their timestamp (used to display logmessages within a time interval). See Time filter toolbar.

·      Custom filters: filter logmessages by their Module/Case combinations and logmessage text (using a substring search). More about that is explained in a separate topic about Custom filters.

Important:

Custom filter, Loglevel filter and time filter work additive.

Examples

The application of these filter kinds is shown by the following examples.

Example 1:

If you only want to view error and alarm logmessages (logmessages that have the error or alarm Loglevel (bit)), you need a Loglevel filter:

·      Make sure the error and alarm level buttons of the Loglevel filter toolbar are pressed (sunken).

·      Make sure the or operator of this toolbar is pressed (sunken).

Example 2:

If you want to hide all logmessages before a certain date and time, you need a time filter:

·      Edit the begin-date and begin-time fields of the time filter toolbar.

·      Make sure the Begin button of this toolbar is pressed (sunken)

If you want to hide all logmessage after a certain date and time, do the same with the end-date and end-time fields and the End button of the Time filter toolbar.

Example 3:

If you want to view all logmessages with a certain Module and Case combination and a special substring within their logmessage text, you need a Custom filter:

·      Create a Custom AND-filter in the filterset pane under Custom Filters.

·      Activate this filter by dragging it to the logmessage pane.
